Understanding Zoning Ordinances for Data Centers
Townships legally can’t say “NO” to data centers.
We can’t create ordinances that are considered to be “exclusionary” for data centers because that could allow these companies to sue the township and push the project through anyway. The zoning ordinances need to have the right balance between what protects our community and isn’t exclusionary to data centers.
Next Steps
- After the subcommittee makes their recommendations, Solon Township will set a public hearing.
- Community members will have the opportunity to make comments at the hearing.
- After the public hearing, the Planning Commission will vote on these zoning ordinance amendments.
We have a small window to influence what we want to see in these zoning ordinance amendments. The community’s involvement in this process has already made a difference, and we need your comments now more than ever.
